Chapter 7: Cesarian Section

Chapter 7: Table of Contents

Clipping and initial skin preparation are generally performed prior to anesthetic induction to limit the anesthetic time. The surgeon should scrub, gown and set up the surgical table while the patient is being anesthetized and moved to surgery. Final preparation and draping are performed after anesthetic induction. A ventral midline approach is performed with the incision extending from cranial to the umbilicus to just cranial to the pubis (extend further cranial if necessary). The linea alba will be stretched and thin – be careful not to incise the underlying organs.
