Males

In male dogs, begin the incision along midline cranial to the prepuce but begin to deflect the incision laterally as you approach the prepuce and continue the incision parallel and lateral (~1.5-2cm) to the prepuce performing a parapreputial incision. The subcutaneous tissues are incised along the same line. The preputial muscle (located at the cranial aspect of the prepuce) is transected and the branch of the caudal superficial epigastric vein (located lateral to the prepuce) is double ligated or cauterized and transected. Undermine the subcutaneous tissues below the prepuce in order to reflect it towards the opposite side exposing the linea alba along the length of the incision. Incise the linea alba as described above.
