Hats and Masks
A hat and mask must be worn upon entering the surgical area. In junior surgery, a hat and mask must be worn prior to crossing the red line. The hat is essential for walking into the room while the mask should be worn at the time of preparation of the patient. Remember that the hat is pretty bulky and once you have gloves on, you don’t want to be anywhere near your head with the gloves.
Other types of hats and masks:
- Antifog mask – used with glasses
- Surgeons hood – used for people with facial hair
