Malignant Urethral Obstruction

Chapter 14: Table of Contents

Malignant Urethral Obstruction

Malignant urethral obstruction is typically associated with transitional cell carcinoma or prostatic adenocarcinoma. Because of the high metastatic rate associated with these tumours, their relatively poor response to treatment, and the invasive nature of the curative intent treatments, palliation is often our objective. This typically consists of re-establishing urinary flow along with the administration of chemotherapeutic drugs to slow the progression of disease.
