Intradermal Pattern

Chapter 4: Table of Contents

Intradermal Pattern

The intradermal pattern begins with a buried knot similar to a simple continuous pattern. Then, a horizontal needle bite is taken entering the dermal tissues along the cut edge of the skin, traveling parallel to the incision line for 4-8 mm and exiting the dermal tissues on the same side. Then the needle crosses the incision and another similar bite is taken on the opposite side. This pattern is continued along the entire incision. The pattern also ends with a buried knot. Note that a small diameter, absorbable suture material (such as Vicryl® or Monocryl® on a cutting needle is preferred for this suture pattern.
