Kidney biopsies can be performed using a wedge or core (Tru-cut) biopsy technique. Wedge biopsies result in a large sample but they are more difficult to obtain especially without surgical assistance. Wedge biopsies also lead to substantial hemorrhage compared to the core biopsy technique.
